Dustin M. Thomas

Even at a very young age, Dustin M. Thomas often found solace in the tones, textures, and imagery of the written word. By the time Dustin was sixteen, he had been a published poet twice, yet he developed a need to venture toward other creative avenues.

In 1999, he left the “Gate City”—where he was born and raised—and headed to the Theatre Arts program at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. It was there that he studied the classical theories and principles of Hagen, Shurtleff, Caine, Burton, Yakim, and Laban. During this time, Dustin also studied abroad at London, England’s Roehampton University, where he delved into a multitude of theatrical theory courses, ranging from the English view of American Theatre to Bertolt Brecht’s Biomechanics. Soon, Dustin found himself directing plays, and even writing his own—one entitled Eat, Drink and Be Married even found its way onto New York’s OOB scene.

In 2005, Dustin was accepted into the highly-selective Masters of Professional Writing Program at the University of Southern California, where—guided by Poet Laureate, James Ragan—Dustin studied under Los Angeles’s greatest working authors, producers, and screenwriters. They included: Irv Kershner, Mel Shavelson, S.L. Stebel, Jason E. Squire, David Scott Milton, Shelley Berman, Aram Saroyan, Dustin’s Fiction Thesis mentor, Gina Nahai, and his Screenwriting Thesis mentor, Syd Field.

The minute Dustin graduated from USC, he dove headfirst into the Los Angeles scene as an independent screenwriter, director, and producer. A short film (Shutter) that he was the Executive Producer and Co-Writer of was soon placed onto the 2008 Palm Springs International Short Film Festival Marketplace, the same year another of his short scripts (La Apuesta) was wrapping up filming in Viña del Mar, Chile.

Dustin soon found himself producing, writing, and directing award-winning programs for advertising and media marketing campaigns around the globe. Some of his most notable clients include America’s Navy, Ford, Apple, iTunes, Nike, Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Mazda, Puma/Cobra Golf.
